Dr. Turnage is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist who has practiced in Pensacola since 1992. He takes great pride in treating adolescent, high school and college athletes. Sports injuries in “Weekend Warriors” and many active seniors also make up a large portion of his practice. Sports medicine is as much an art as a science. It involves rapid and accurate diagnosis, coordination of rehabilitation, patient education, safe and rapid return to desired activity as soon as possible. On occasion, surgery may also be necessary. Sports medicine also looks at the specific emotional needs, physical abilities and goals of each individual. In other words, Sports medicine tailors an individualized comprehensive plan for every patient. Dr. Turnage has been on “both sides” of sports medicine – as an athlete and as a physician. Dr. Turnage was a Scholarship Division I athlete at the University of Georgia for four years (two SEC championship teams and two NCAA Final Four appearances). This plus many years as a treating physician gives Dr. Turnage special insight into all aspects sports medicine. Learning the needs of his patients and helping them understand treatment and surgical options has been his professional passion for many years. Dr. Turnage has authored patient education materials in multimedia formats. These are available on this website. Dr. Turnage is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery with Florida State University College of Medicine (Department of Surgery) and is also on faculty with the University of South Alabama (Physician Assistant Program). He has been named to Best Doctors in America, America’s Top Physicians, and America's Top Surgeons. He enjoys spending time with his four children and wife of 26 years. When not practicing medicine, Dr. Turnage plays guitar, hunts, snow skis, and sails. He is also an accomplished photographer.
